RoboCupRescue 2007 World Championships Pre-Registration

Due to popular demand, the deadline for pre-registration for the Agent Competition has been extended to the 28th of February 2007. This means that teams which missed the deadline in December can still enter but they will have to put together a TDP and TPF and generate log files by the 28th of February. Guidelines on how to do this for 'new' teams can be found in the CFP.

The deadline for submitting to the Infrastructure and Challenge competitions is June 2007 (exact date to be decided soon).

For more details on what the competitions are about please see the CFP.

Note that all teams will still need to register for the RoboCup event itself in order to participate in the competition. You will be notified when the time to register comes if you have signified your intent to participate.

You will find more details below:

Agent Competition

The qualification process will, as in previous years, consist of submitting your team description paper, a Team Participation Form, and two log files of two runs of your agents on a specified scenarios (to be posted here soon).

The deadline to do this is the 28th of February 2007.

The examplar TDP/TPF can be downloaded here. You need read the instructions well before writing yours.

Logfiles for the following two scenarios below must be generated and uploaded on a website from which the committee members can download them:

You will be required to submit a more complete description of your strategy closer to the competition. More details will be posted on the website regarding this.

Infrastructure Competition

The qualification process will, as in previous years, consist of submitting you TDP/TPF (as for the agent competition) as a first step and a more complete description of your work closer to the competition date.

The participants will only have to register to attend RoboCup and need to submit their entry in June 2007 (exact date to be specified soon). Please submit your TDP/TPF as early as possible to signify your intent to participate so that you can get updates and registration information directly.

Challenge Award - WIN £500 (~$1000) !

(open to all entrants of the Infrastructure competition)

This year we are proposing the introduction of the Challenge Award that aims to attract new developments to the simulator and for the whole benefit of the community. Qualifying submissions to the Infrastructure Competition will have to specifically consider developing tools that extend the functionality of the current simulator in significant ways in such a way to make the simulator more realistic and more useful to real disaster managers.

The following are only guidelines as to what should be developed and any other significant addition to the simulator will be on an equal par:

  1. A converter that allows to easily import maps from online mapping systems such as GoogleEarth/Live.com/Ordance Survey to the RoboCup Rescue simulator (permissions to be requested prior to using proprietary software). The converter should generate map data on which it will be possible to run any simulation. It will be an added value if 3D building data is also included.
  2. A plugin that generates a KML file online such that the the agents' behaviour can be displayed and periodically updated (also online) with such tools as GoogleEarth. This plugin would also generate:
a.) Locations of all agents with status information in the name (So you can see the status of any specific agent with a mouse-over)
b.) Map overlays for fire, blockage and collapses (so you can see e.g. which areas are under fire)
  3. Additional simulators e.g. Flood simulator, crowd simulator etc...
  4. Adapting RobocupRescue simulation to the USARsim simulator. This would involve mapping the behaviour of agents in 2d world to a 3d world. See the wiki for more details on the USARsim competition to get latest updates.

The winner of the Challenge Award will be decided by majority vote by the TC/OC which will determine the significance of the contribution. The winner will take a £500 prize generously offered by the ALADDIN project!

The challenge award is sponsored by the ALADDIN project.

Criteria for acceptance

For teams that have previously participated in the competition, the quality of the TDP should be that of a conference-level scientific paper and should depict what you produced in the previous year and what's going to be new this year. The two parts should be clearly delineated in your descriptions.
Also, you will need to report on the experience your team members gained in previous robocup events.

For new teams, we will only require broad descriptions of your intended techniques as we understand your strategies/code will significantly change as you better understand the problem. Note that your TDP should nevertheless be complete and show some creativity for it to be acceptable. However, you will still need to report on the base code you use in the TPF.

Note that there are many criteria for acceptance which include but not limit to (and not in priority order of any sort):

1. Quality of TDP (i.e. readability, clarity, originality of technique used, contribution to state- of-the-art)

2. Proof of working code (i.e. through log files ) - for Agent Competition

3. Geographic location (i.e. whether teams from a given country have previously participated or not) - this will not apply to the Infrastructure competition.

The details of the scenarios upon which you will need to run your agents and generate a logfile will be sent to you by the 1st of February.

Review Process

The review process will involve at least two members of the technical/organisation committee for each submission.

Notification

We expect to give notifications of acceptance for the Agent competition by the **15th of March 2007** so that you can start making preparations (i.e. visas) to attend the event in Atlanta.
